John (Hitesh) Adhia, CPA - President, Board of Director

Has over 20 years experience in the insurance industry. Mr. Adhia's Insurance career started with Florida Farm Bureau Insurance Company as a financial accountant from 1991 to 1996, where he gained much of his knowledge of the property and casualty insurance business. While at Florida Farm Bureau, he was involved with reinsurance, NAIC filings and IT systems design and implementation. He was also extensively involved with claims payments, reinsurance recoveries and the eventual restructuring of Florida Farm Bureau during hurricane Andrew. From 1997-2002, Mr. Adhia was a key member of the executive team that brought about the success of Well Care HMO, Inc. Currently, Mr. Adhia is the owner of Adhia Investment Advisors, Inc., which manages approximately $100 million in assets.


Mark C. Shealy, C.P.A. – CFO, COO, Board of Director

Mr. Shealy has more than 25 years of experience in Oversight and policy decision related to the operations of the Florida Property and Casualty Insurance Companies. Mr. Shealy has worked for the Florida Department of Insurance in Tallahassee in various capacities including Financial Administrator, Reinsurance Analyst, and Examiner. Mark was the COO and CFO of Florida Doctors Insurance Company for 10 years. In addition to being a member of Avatar Board, Mark also serves as a Board/Committee Member in Florida Medical MalPractice JUA for over 10 years.


Kiran Patel, M.D. - Board of Director

Dr. Patel is a renowned philanthropist and businessman. During 1997 to 2002, Dr. Patel was Chairman of the Board of Well Care HMO., Inc. and other affiliated HMO's in Florida, New York and Connecticut with annual revenues of over $1billion. Since the sale of the HMOs, Dr. Patel has devoted a significant portion of his time to philanthropic activities locally as well as globally. His current business interest spans a diverse portfolio including medical practices, real estate development, hotels, software, insurance, and other investment related activities.


Mike Karia, MBA - Board of Director

Mr. Karia brings vast knowledge of business and government affairs with more than 40 years of hands on experience in finance, accounting, and management. Mr. Karia was the Finance Director and Treasurer of the City of Dover, Delaware, for 25 years. Mr. Karia has been an adjunct professor of Finance and Management Accounting at Wilmington College since 1981 and continues to teach its MBA program.


Tommy Wheeler, FLMI - Board of Director, Operations Consultant

Mr. Wheeler has over 40 years of experience with the Florida Farm Bureau Insurance Companies, Property and Casualty. He started in 1971 as an internal auditor and was Vice President of Finance and Administration before retiring recently. In addition to CFO responsibilities of an insurance company, he was also responsible for the Company owned building management, human resources, information and billing systems, cafeteria operations, and mail and purchasing functions. His experience in the insurance field encompassed all facets from starting a new company, reinsurance negotiations, rate filings, and statutory filings, to raising surplus through debentures.


Michael Rudd, P.A. – Board of Director

Mr. Rudd attended St. Thomas University School of Law. During law school, Mr. Rudd was involved in Moot Court Competition and served as Clerk for the Administrative Judge of the Family Division of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, Richard Yale Feder. After graduation from law school, he began employment at an insurance defense firm that gave him the chance to try his skills at litigation. In 1992 Mr. Rudd started his own firm with an emphasis on insurance matters. Since that time, Mr. Rudd has handled a variety of cases including commercial and domestic property losses, fraudulent claims, commercial vehicles, PIP and "toxic tort" cases. Mr. Rudd started his current firm, Rudd & Diamond in 2002 and has now tried hundreds of trials with outstanding results.


Christine Mellon– Chief Accounting Officer

Ms. Mellon joined Avatar in February 2009 as the Financial Analyst. She brings extensive knowledge in statutory reporting, NAIC, and GAAP. Ms. Mellon is responsible for the preparation and execution of all financial filings, including those with the NAIC and FLOIR. She performs audits and reconciliations for all accounts and has assisted in the development of accounting software and the implementation of procedures for the accounting department. Ms. Mellon graduated Magna Cum-Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of South Florida.


Pamir Patel – Operation IT Manager

Mr. Patel holds a BS degree in Electronics from DAVV University, India and an MBA degree from Pune University, India. Prior to joining Avatar, Mr. Patel worked extensively in developing business processes in industries such as Information Technology, Telecom, and Insurance. He also managed operations such as Sales and Marketing, Customer Service, Claims & Training. Mr. Patel joined Avatar in June 2008 as an IT Analyst and currently holding a position of Operation Manager. Mr. Patel is responsible for IT infrastructure & Operations, Management of solutions design & development, new product development and also engaged in developing work papers for Rate & Form filings, Reinsurance Structure and Risk based financial matrices.


Diane Viale – Director of Underwriting

Ms. Viale has over 20-years of insurance experience in underwriting and claims. She joined Avatar as the Underwriting Manager in 2008. While heading up the Underwriting Department at Mercury Insurance she was directly responsible for entering the New Jersey personal auto market, the first carrier to do so in seven years. In addition, she led the company's efforts for the Pennsylvania expansion. While with Mercury, USAA and Progressive she was chosen to lead groups in systems development both in planning and user testing capacities. Ms. Viale brings extensive knowledge on state fillings, compliance, billing and collections and customer service. Ms. Viale is a graduate of Ball State University with a BS in Management Science.


Donna Kundrot - Manager of Claims

Ms. Kundrot started her Insurance career in 1997. In 2000 she joined State Farm's Corporate Office in the Claims Division where she earned her Associate in Claims and INS designation (Certificate in General Insurance) through the Insurance Institute of America. Ms. Kundrot joined Avatar Property & Casualty in 2010 as a Claims Analyst earning an Associate in General Insurance (AINS) designation. She currently is pursuing her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation through the Insurance Institute of America with a focus on commercial properties. Ms. Kundrot is a seasoned adjuster with catastrophe claims experience and excellent legal experience for managing files in litigation. Ms. Kundrot has led Avatar's claims department since 2014.


Cory Calway – Underwriter Commercial Program

Mr. Calway has over 5 years of experience with Liberty Mutual Insurance as a Field Underwriter and Loss Control Consultant/Risk Engineer. Mr. Calway provided service on retail, residential, warehousing, healthcare and industrial occupancies on locations up to $300 million in insured value in 18 states in the New England, Mid Atlantic and Southeastern regions. Services included performing evaluations on the construction, occupancy, protections, and exposures for each location and analyzing risk involved as well as consultations on possible solutions to outstanding issues regarding code compliance, planned project review, occupancy special hazards, and general risk management. Mr. Calway holds a BS degree in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts and is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist through the NFPA.
